Pharmacy Technician (Integrated) Standard – Level 3
Outline of the Pharmacy Apprenticeship Course
Qualification
Level 3 - Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians (Integrated).
Entry Requirements
Apprentices must have a GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths, Grade 4 (C) and above.
It is recommended that apprentice have a GCSE in Science or equivalent.
Working Hours
Apprentices will work 30 hours per week in the pharmacy and attend college once a week.
What will the apprentice be doing?
Duties will include (but will not be limited to):
- Taking in and handing out prescriptions
- Receiving and ordering stock
- Selling over the counter medicines
- Dispensing
- Advising patients about medications
- Undertaking final checks on the prescriptions
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
- Can progress to working as a pharmacy technician in a hospital, community pharmacy, GP surgeries, the air force and pharmaceutical industries
- In a hospital setting they can be specialised in areas such as quality control, medicine information, procurement, clinical trials, or manufacturing.
- Managing a pharmacy department
- Work in pharmaceutical industries
- Pharmacy Tutor in colleges, Assessor, Internal Quality Assurer and External Verifier
- Become a Pharmacist with additional qualifications
About the Course
Apprentices will be on the course for 24 months and an additional 2-3 months for the End-point assessment period.
From the course start date, apprentices will be given National Minimum Apprentice Wage rate if they’re either:
- aged under 19
- aged 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship
For second year of apprenticeship Apprentices will be given the National Living Wage for their age.
