Level 2 Certificate in Pharmaceutical Science

This knowledge qualification has been designed for those wishing to work in a pharmacy setting, either in the community or in a hospital. The qualification can be used as a standalone knowledge qualification or taken in conjunction with the City & Guilds Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills. At this level, the candidate will gain the essential knowledge and skills required to work as a Pharmacy Assistant.

Course Structure

This course is awarded by City & Guilds with QCF Accreditation No: 500/9575/4. It carries 30 credits, 15 credits from the mandatory units and a minimum of 15 credits from the optional units available.

The candidate at this level will gain knowledge on three core units and three option units:

  • Unit 251 Communicating with pharmacy customers
  • Unit 252 Law, regulation, health and safety in pharmacy
  • Unit 253 Working in the pharmacy team
  • Unit 254 Ordering and issuing stock in the pharmacy
  • Unit 255 Receiving, storing and maintaining stock in the pharmacy
  • Unit 256 Preparing for and manufacture of aseptic products
  • Unit 257 Assisting in the preparation, manufacture and assembly of medicinal products
  • Unit 258 Selling over the counter medicines in the pharmacy
  • Unit 259 Processing a prescription
  • Unit 260 Assemble prescriptions safely

Learning and Assessment

This part of the course will be completed by attending scheduled lectures at the college which will cover all the required knowledge. The course is assessed by the online multiple choice test at the end of each module.
