Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills

This course is a competence based qualification for anyone interested in a career as a pharmacy dispenser or pharmacy dispensing assistant. It covers all the essential elements required to carry out the role of a Pharmacy Assistant/ Pharmacy Dispensing Assistant and it is the minimum qualification required by the General Pharmaceutical Council for individuals who wants to provide pharmacy services.

Course Structure:

This course is awarded by City & Guilds. It carries 20 credits, 8 credits from the mandatory units and 12 credits from at least 4 of the optional units available.

The candidate at this level will gain knowledge on three core units:

  • Assist with the provision of pharmacy service to meet individual’s needs
  • Ensure your own actions reduces risks to health and safety
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of teams

The candidate will choose 4 optional units from a range, including:

  • Assemble prescribed items
  • Assist in the preparation of documentation, materials and other items for manufacture and assembly of medicinal products
  • Maintain pharmaceutical stock

Learning and Assessment:

This part of the course will be completed by attending scheduled lectures at the college and students are assessed by portfolio of evidence, direct observation by qualified assessor, direct questioning and assignment and practical and written examination.

Entry requirements:

There is no any formal requirement but we ensure the potential of the candidates to gain qualification. Candidates under the age of 16 are not approved.
